andreasandClaude Sonnet 5.5 6790ff53a8 chore: raise the flake8 line-length limit to 165
The longest existing line is 164 characters; flake8 is now clean.

andreasandClaude Sonnet 5.5 445ff6b474 fix: clear all mypy errors
Annotate untyped containers and Optional attributes, type the stdlib-shaped
metric dicts in the client plugins, and add types-PyYAML/types-psutil to the
dev extras plus a mypy override for nio/mattermostdriver (no stubs).

Behaviour fixes found on the way: enable_kernel_timestamps() now returns False
when SO_TIMESTAMP is unknown instead of raising TypeError, send_shutdown is
defined at module level so cleanup() cannot hit a NameError, and a failed
subprocess returncode falls back to UNKNOWN.

andreasandClaude Sonnet 5.5 748349a7b9 style: clear whitespace, unused-import and blank-line lint
Strip trailing whitespace, drop unused imports/variables/global statements,
split multi-imports, fix E3xx/E1xx spacing and E712 comparisons. No behaviour
change; only E501 long lines remain in flake8.

andreasandClaude Sonnet 5.5 85c6a4eebe fix(server): honour the legacy thresholds: config; repair the stale test suite
Since the built-in defaults were seeded into threshold_configs, the legacy
top-level thresholds: format was silently ignored. get_thresholds_for_host
now uses it whenever it was configured.

Tests: point imports at hbd.server/hbd.common, rewrite the DNS worker,
proto, datagram and threshold tests for the current API, add pytest-asyncio
to the dev extras and set testpaths so a bare pytest runs cleanly.

andreasandClaude Sonnet 5.5 952adb68f8 fix(server): ignore datagrams that are not named HTB/PLG messages
A scanner's SIP INVITE on the public UDP port was parsed as a message without
a name and signed on a host called "unknown". Non-client datagrams are still
journaled but no longer create hosts or get an ACK.

andreasandClaude Sonnet 5.5 885d5dc937 feat(client): re-resolve the server hostnames at the DNS TTL
hbc, hbc_mini.py and hbc_mini.c resolved the server once at startup, so an
address change needed a client restart. They now re-resolve every TTL seconds
(smallest A/AAAA TTL, floor 30s, 300s when unknown) and re-point, add or drop
connections to follow the new addresses; a failed lookup keeps the current ones.

andreasandClaude Sonnet 5 e8d9c4a958 docs: complete the 5.4.5 changelog entry
Release / release (push) Successful in 44s
The release script dropped every scoped feat:/fix: commit from the
generated entry (fixed in the prior commit); this backfills the mini
client presence feature and both C-client fixes.

andreasandClaude Sonnet 5 328f248c43 fix: bumpminor.sh changelog grep drops scoped feat/fix commits
The grep/sed only matched unscoped conventional-commit subjects
("feat: ...", "fix: ..."), so every scoped commit ("feat(server): ...")
was silently dropped from the generated changelog entry. Both 5.4.4 and
5.4.5 needed a manual follow-up fix for this. Broaden the pattern to
accept an optional (scope) and drop it from the changelog line.

andreasandClaude Sonnet 5 5243f0a834 fix: shutdown ordering, silent probe failures, and unused import in the mini clients
- hbc_mini.c: move the probe-thread pthread_join to after the shutdown HTB send,
so the clean-shutdown notification is no longer delayed behind (and possibly
lost to a SIGKILL racing) a probe thread blocked in popen()/ping.
- hbc_mini.c: log a LOGW when pthread_create() fails to start the probe thread,
and when probe_v4/probe_v6 are not IP literals (probe_init), so both previously
silent no-op failure modes are now diagnosable. Diagnostic only — no behavior
change to the PROBE_UNKNOWN fallback path.
- hbc_mini.py: remove the unused 'import struct' (F401).

andreasandClaude Sonnet 5 248b17edca feat(mini-c): connectivity probe core with unit tests
Adds the pure/core probe logic for the standalone C client (hbc_mini.c):
gateway text parsers for /proc/net/route, /proc/net/ipv6_route and BSD
`route -n get`, a ping-output RTT parser, and the probe_step state machine
(probe_t/probe_fam_t/probe_ops_t) plus probe_flags and probe_metric_json.
config_t gains probe_enabled/probe_interval/probe_v4/probe_v6.

Temporary stub functions (sys_local_address, sys_ping, sys_gateway,
mono_ts) stand in for real syscalls until Task 4 wires them into main().

New scripts/c/test_probe.c test harness (#include's hbc_mini.c with main
renamed out of the way) plus a `make test` target; scripts/c/.gitignore
now ignores the test_probe binary.

All notable changes to this project are documented here, organized by release. All notable changes to this project are documented here, organized by release.
## [5.4.7]
### Fixed
- clear all mypy errors
- honour the legacy thresholds: config; repair the stale test suite
- ignore datagrams that are not named HTB/PLG messages
---
## [5.4.6]
### Added
- re-resolve the server hostnames at the DNS TTL
---
## [5.4.5]
### Added
- `hbc_mini.py` and `hbc_mini.c` (the dependency-free clients) get the same per-protocol connectivity probe as `hbc`: `p4`/`p6` flags on every heartbeat and a `connectivity` metric (presence, own address, gateway, RTT) via `network_monitor`, with gateway lookup on Linux, FreeBSD/NetBSD/DragonFly (both clients) and macOS/Windows (`hbc_mini.py` only)
- `scripts/c/test_probe.c` and a `make test` target — the C client's first automated test suite
### Fixed
- `hbc_mini.c`: the clean-shutdown heartbeat could be delayed or lost behind an in-flight connectivity probe on SIGTERM; it is now sent before the probe thread is joined
- `hbc_mini.c`: a connectivity probe that fails to start, or is configured with a non-IP-literal target, now logs a warning instead of failing silently
- `hbc_mini.py`: removed an unused import
